I have been wonding about this, how do you create this icons, the compress size and everything ( I'm not asking for a tutorial, just how do you, like the program and what do I have to do) please, and thanks, I have been loving your icons for a while, they are pretty awersome
Nothing special really. I just download the image I want to use in the icon from the Internet and use Photoshop cut-out the series' characters and logos. I mostly use pen tool to cut-out the images, so their background gets trans- parent. (REMEMBER TO SAVE CUT-OUT IMAGES IN .PNG FORMAT) After the cut-out process all I need to do is to paste and move the images: I paste logo onto the most top layer and characters on the most bottom layer in layer palette/window. After I am happy with the end result, I re-size picture into 256 pixels, or into 512 pixels if I also want to make ICNS for MAC. After re-sizing I'll save the icon as PNG and use software compress PNG icon into ICO file.
As for how I compress the image file into .ICO file, I use Axialis Iconworkshop to do it. With Iconworkshop I can also specifically change how the icon looks in the smaller sizes; I usually use part of the anime series' logo in icon's smaller sizes from 16 to 32 pixels. There's also websites that allow you to compress the images into icon files, for example, iconconverter; albeit the compression result in the site might not be as smooth, and the site doesn't offer as many settings to play with as the software does.
The hardest part of the making icons is to master how to cut-out images. There's lot of tutorials out there how to do it, but I recommend first to watch YouTube videos on "How to render images". Here's one video that quickly shows, how the cut out/rendering usually goes: www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyLTHC…
You can also use free GIMP that is similar image editing software like Photoshop to make icons.
Well at the right side of this page there should be arrow down image and next to it a text Download File. By clicking that text/link you should be able to download the icon, which is packed in RAR file. It should almost right under Browse More Like This panel.
